Data can be easily transferred from one iPhone to another using the 'Name Drop' feature in iOS 17 operating system. Although the information can be sent quickly, the police in the state of Ohio fear that this facility may be harmful to the safety of children. Therefore, apart from warning about this, they advised the parents to stop the name drop feature on children's iPhone.
If the name drop facility is on, by keeping two
iPhones close to each other, various information including photos, phone
numbers can be quickly exchanged from one iPhone to another without a cable
connection. As a result, while the facility is on, it is believed that someone
else could collect the information on the children's phones without their
knowledge. So the police advised to turn off the facility in the iPhone used by
the children to protect their personal information.
Note that the name drop feature can be used by
default on iPhone running iOS 17.1 operating system. So this facility has to be
closed manually. By clicking on the AirDrop option from the iPhone settings and
turning off the toggle next to Name Drop, the iPhone Name Drop feature will be
turned off.
